About Us

Background

Innovation into Action grants were available through the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) - formerly the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) Tenant Empowerment Grant Programme, which aimed to support and develop greater tenant participation in the management of council housing in England. The Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) manages the grant programme.

The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) - Tenant Participation Branch is responsible for taking forward the DCLG's commitment to improve the quality and level of tenant participation in local authority housing management. The Branch deals with a wide range of issues including Tenant Participation Compacts, Tenant Participation in Best Value in Housing, Section 16 Tenant Empowerment Grants, tenant training and the Right to Manage.

The Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) is the professional body for people working in housing. Our purpose is to maximise the contribution that housing professionals make to the well being of communities.

Innovation into Action

The Innovation into Action grant programme funded projects to develop radical or new ways of involving council tenants in managing their homes in authorities across England by providing funding for tenants groups either working alone or with partner agencies to encourage, develop and promote the widest possible range of tenant participation options.
