Kensington & Chelsea TMO - Board Member Training

The aim of the programme was to provide prospective and established board members with an appropriate and effective training and support provision that will support the skills and development requirements of the board members role.

Pass achievements of the course were upon successful completion of the course with an additional option to undertake the CIH Higher Certificate in Governance (HCG cert). The programme was delivered in one-year cycles over three years and comprised four-day monthly workshops.

TPAS - Getting Online CDROM

The project produced a directory of free or cheap ICT access for social housing tenants. TPAS surveyed various organisations in England, e.g. Public Libraries, CVs, Tenant Federations and Resource Halls, Cyber Cafes and housing organisations.

The information was put on a database and onto CDROM. The information is localised so details can be given locally to any tenant. The information can be obtained by phoning TPAS on their free phone number to request print outs of local centres.

University of the West of England - Flexible Learning in Context (FLIC)

This project is an internet based training module to enable tenants, officers, councillors and board members to understand the concept of business planning and resource accounting.

The training is flexible and modular and tenants can do parts of it as required.

WATMOS - Online Applications

Walsall Alliance of Tenant Management Organisations (WATMOS) is the nine TMOs in Walsall all coming together to form their own RSL.

The board, made up of nine tenants and five independents, is the first in the country to attempt this. The project linked all the TMOs on the internet and email so they can communicate more quickly, reach each other more effectively and to spread the news of this. They also linked repairs reporting and housing application through the website.

This project wasn't quite as successful as originally hoped.

Cumbria Tenants and Residents Participation Forum - Tenant Benchmarking

This project examined ways of obtaining information relevant to the tenants, methods to enable tenants to exchange information and work together to test for best value.

The project looked at logistical ways of making this work across a diverse rural area and identified the most cost effective mechanisms to support this initiative. It examined the support that can be provided by landlords and tenant's organisations and looked at practical issues around time scales and different landlord decision making structures.

AfCE - Accredited Best Value Training

The project built on work already carried out by Arches Housing Ltd. using the accredited programme of training in tenants' competencies and the measurement tool developed in relation to tenant participation and Best Value.

The aim of the work was to develop an accredited programme that was sufficiently flexible to assess an individual's commitment, available time, access and capacity to develop individual learning programmes.

Hounslow Homes - Convent Way Youth Project

Convent Way is one of the most deprived estates in Hounslow, with 73 per cent ethnic minorities, a crime hot spot, and no provision for youth.

The idea of this project was to tap into the adventurous, challenging nature of its youth by channelling their energy into stunt work and stage combat.

Safe Neighbourhoods Unit - TMO Management Training

Safe Neighbourhoods Unit have developed a tenant management related NEBSM module capable of delivery to tenants by any community college in the country, minimising the need to negotiate content locally.

The proposed course is 30 hours long and can be delivered over time in two or three hour sessions, up to 12 participants can be accommodated on each course.

PeP Trust - Neighbourhood Workers

This project aims to train and support twenty Neighbourhood Workers - who will be residents trained by their Local Authority or Housing Association to carry out community development work in their neighbourhoods.

This will be employment based training for residents leading to a nationally accredited training programme. It will offer a coherent integrated programme which will be replicable and sustainable.

TPAS - Conflict Resolution

TPAS, commissioned by the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) - formerly the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM), had devised clauses to insert into TP Compacts which standardise the option for mediation or arbitration where landlord-tenant group relations have broken down.

This project took these clauses further forward in four real life disputes, resulting in a Guide with replicable models for dispute resolutions and the use of mediation techniques.

PEP Trust - Economic Option Studies

To work with partners to carry out economic option studies. The areas chosen will need to demonstrate a need and aspiration for economic renewal.

It builds on the DCLG's experience of tenant empowerment options studies, adopting their methodology but focusing on issues that cannot be covered in depth under the current S16 options studies.
