Cohesia Limited - BME Communities and Best Value in Housing

The motivation for this project is to support BME communities in developing bottom-up indicators which are specific to the communities they serve and to reflect their aspirations in continuous improvement in service delivery in the context of Best Value in Housing.

It will seek to establish ownership of the performance indicators through this process of participation and increase the participation of BME households in the housing sector as well as the accountability of housing organisations.

HouseMark - TMO Business Planning Toolkit

This project co-ordinated and developed a business planning toolkit for Tenant Management Organisations to help them to forward, plan and effectively organise TMO resources.

It developed a bespoke business planning tool aid reflecting the business plan, financial aspects and the community organisation context of a TMO. Guidance material relating to a self help toolkit has been developed.The project has also produced an 'In-Touch' toolkit to help TMO's keep in touch with fellow tenants.

Borough Council of King's Lyn - Community Gateway Model

The idea of this project is to build on the tenant compact using the transfer process to develop the 'staircase of empowerment' which can lead to a Community Gateway Association. Communicating the empowerment strategy to rural and urban communities.

Training will be for new tenant representatives for the committees, linking to an accredited programme to develop tenant's skills and link to local priorities.

Irish Traveller Movement - A Good Practice Guide for Involving Travellers in Housing and Site Accommodation

ITM employed an outreach worker to support Irish Traveller participation in local authority tenants planning and development.

They facilitate the establishment of inter-agency forums having Traveller participation as a core value. Suitable training and development was identified for the Traveller communities including representation, public speaking, assertiveness, Media skills and Traveller accommodation law. The worker develops, using good practice, a published 'Traveller Involvement Toolkit', which is disseminated nationally through established networks.

Tribal HCH - AdaPT Knowledge Management

The aim of this project is to make the modular Management Agreement more user friendly to tenants developing a TMO. This is done using the newly developed AdaPT Knowledge Management tool - a state-of-the-art computer based visual toolset.

The attached document is a slide show illustrating some of the screens from the toolset.

Fair Community Housing Services - Community Arts Project

The idea is to create a high quality, community driven, artwork that will become a landmark statement and a community beacon.

One of the blocks of flats on the estate has been given a stark render finish and is in clear view of one of London's prime tourist attractions. This could be used as a blank canvas to promote a community message and to connect the community. The ideas of using projected images, light installation, sculptural elements as well as more traditional paint, ceramic and contemporary mural forms.

TPAS -Landlord Accreditation Scheme

A model for a landlord accreditation scheme for their tenant participation policies and structures will be produced.

This project included four landlords, willing to be used as pilots to check that the scheme will work in practice. These pilot landlords covered a variety of different organisations e.g. rural, urban, large, small etc. This Model has been produced as a 'how to' guide that is available for organisations to work to.

Caradon Tenants & Residents Forum - Video Library

The project involved building up a video library where tenants were filmed in their communities talking about Tenant Participation.

Video equipment, video recorders and a small exhibition trailer was purchased and the trailer taken out to rural areas and scattered housing stock.

CCCU - Central Management System

This project developed a central management system to co-ordinate activities in all ten Tenant Halls in Camden Central.

This involved the weekly downloading of a schedule of events in the Tenant Halls (cultural, educational, tenant meetings, LB Camden meetings etc), the dates and times of the halls' availability for rental and the prices for tenant, residents, community groups and commercial rental of the Tenant Halls.

Tung Sing Housing Association - BME Translation & Interpretation Project

Tung Sing was aware that effective communication, in translation and via the provision of interpreters, is the key to developing TP and confidence.

The aim of this project was to address the issues of exclusion and intimidation created by language barriers. It supports the development of simultaneous interpretation services which can allow for up to 3 different interpretations to be provided in 'real time' without disrupting the flow of the event. The project aims to become a social enterprise thus ensuring sustainability.
