Stage Three - Funding
Good Practice Tips - Applying for Funding
- Assume that the funder has no prior knowledge of your project or the local area
- Don't use acronyms
- Ask a third party to read a draft version of the application and offer their advice
- Be clear and concise
- Think about presentation. Is it easy to read? Include a covering letter and if appropriate page numbers and a contents page. If you are submitting extra information then ensure that it is referred to in the main application and titled appropriately. In the budget do not forget to include other funding including help in kind and volunteer time input. It is important that the funders are able to read your application and obtain the information they require for assessment, otherwise they could send the form back
- Remember to answer the question asked and not the question you wish had been asked
- Ensure that you answer all the questions
- Do not leave any parts blank
- Any information you feel would help your application that has not been covered in the application form could be submitted separately. Try to ensure that this is kept to a minimum because the funders receive many applications and do not necessarily wish to plough through mountains of paper so keep it short and to the point
